To the readers’ forum:
The project work agreement for the new Buffalo Bills Stadium is good for New York State taxpayers.
The $1.4 billion construction plan which will include a Project Labor Agreement (PLA) ensures that highly skilled union-trained workers will only be hired with the promise that best construction practices will be implemented to ensure high quality stadium construction. Moreover, the PLA which has not yet been signed promises a timely supply of workers and a guarantee of no strikes.
The cost of the stadium will be the same with non-union workers, who will likely be trained and able to do the job, or the PLA absolutely promises fully trained union workers.
Note that due to existing wage laws already in effect in New York State, all workers would receive wages comparable to unions on stadium construction with or without an APL. This is to be expected, as the majority of New Yorkers want all state workers to earn a salary to support their families.
Congratulations to Governor Kath Hochul on her successful negotiation to secure a new stadium and a guarantee from our Buffalo Bills in Orchard Park for the next 30 years.
