Hero Motocorp, the world’s largest maker of motorcycles and scooters, plans to launch its first electric vehicle (EV) product under its “Vida” electric mobility brand around the holiday season – which falls between the last week of September and early November.
The company had previously planned to launch its EV product in July. However, due to the current shortage of semiconductors, the launch has been delayed.
The company expects the chip supply to improve around the holiday season and therefore plans to launch its EV product during the period.
“In line with our philosophy of providing the highest quality products to our customers, we remain committed to bringing the very best in electric vehicles (EVs) to our customers across the world,” said Swadesh Srivastava, Unit Manager emerging mobility business (EMBU), Hero Motocorp, said in a statement Wednesday, June 1.
“The current geopolitical situation has led to huge supply chain issues and shortages of various components, including semiconductors. Keeping customers as the top priority, so we believe it would be prudent to unveil the first product EV around the upcoming holiday season instead of July as previously announced, so we are preparing for the launch of VIDA – Powered by Hero – during the holiday season,” Srivastava added.
